A quick look back at 2013...

We look forward to a great year in 2014 - so far DSAA has held one new parent seminar, one educational seminar and one cooking class for our young adults.  We also co-sponsored Disability Day at the state capitol and sponsored the Bregman dance.

We have many more exciting events planned for the rest of the year, but first let us briefly review DSAA at work in 2013!

By the Numbers 2013:

  • 250+ new parent packets mailed and/or delivered to local hospitals, physicians offices and parent liaisons
  • Six new parent liaisons trained
  • 67 local hospitals staffed with parent liaisons
  • 102 new DSAA Members
  • Two (City of Atlanta and State of GA) proclamations denoting October as Down Syndrome Awareness Month, including a visit to the Capital and meeting with the Governor   
  • Six needy families adopted by DSAA and our Members for the holidays
  • Three new parent orientations held
  • Nine "Dine out for Downs" dinners across the metro
  • 11 research studies at top hospitals and universities across the U.S. shared with our members
  • One new associate director and one intern hired
  • Six board meetings hosted

Financial Support:

  • $36k in Support to the Emory Down Syndrome Clinic
  • Sole funder of the Adult Down Syndrome Clinic
  • $12.5k in support to GiGis Playhouse
  • Sole funder of AHSDA, DSAA’s Hispanic Group
  • Support Corrigan Care

Community Partnerships:

  • Partnership with AMC to support Sensory Friendly Film nights
  • Partnership with Emory to re-develop their Best Buddies program
  • Participate in GA State's Best Buddies program 
  • Support D.A.D.S.
  • Facilitate DSAA networking groups across metro Atlanta

  • Hosted annual Spring Social at Stone Mountain Park on May 4th
  • Held second annual Buddy Breakfast on August 22nd celebrating our 2013 Buddy of the year, volunteer of the year, educator of the year,  sponsor of the year and lifetime achievement award honoree 
  • D.A.D.S participated in the Pigs and Peaches BBQ Festival on August 22/23
  • Held annual Buddy Walk Atlanta at Centennial Olympic Park on Sunday, October 13th
  • Sponsored the D.A.D.S Annual Golf Outing at Bear's Best on Friday, October 25th
  • Hosted a Holiday Party on Sunday, December 8th
  • Hosted a Holiday Dance on Saturday, December 7th
  • Held the Inaugural Cooking Challenge on Thursday, December 12th
  • Held four quarterly DSAA education days on topics ranging from new parent orientation, toilet training, transition to early education, adult transition, financial planning, Katie Becket and Deeming Waiver and more.
