Educator of the Year
In 2012, the DSAA announced its new, Educator of the Year Award to honor any educator that has made an impact on the lives of individuals with Down syndrome. We welcome nominations of any educator that exhibits the qualities and actions shown below. All nominees should be currently working in an educational setting.
Qualities of Educator of the Year: This award is to acknowledge, celebrate and give recognition to an individual who currently provides direct educational services to students with Down syndrome and other exceptionalities. The Educator of the Year is an outstanding member of the profession whose work exemplifies the best in general or special education teaching. His or her work reflects significant educational success for students with Down syndrome, the highest standards of educational quality and excels in advocating for the success of his/her students. The educator:
- Includes students in learning opportunities with typical peers while also able to make appropriate adjustments for their special needs
- Enhances the lives of students with Down syndrome through educational practices
- Has made an important contribution to the life or lives of individuals with Down syndrome
- Serves as a role model for other educators serving individuals with Down syndrome and their families
