October is Down syndrome awareness month!
Every year, members of DSAA meet with the Georgia Governor and Atlanta Mayor to request proclamations from each pronouncing that October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month. During Down Syndrome Awareness Month, DSAA holds our annual Buddy Walk Atlanta and the D.A.D.S. annual Golf Tournament. We also speak to organizations around the metropolitan area to raise awareness about Down syndrome.
Down Syndrome Awareness Month is the perfect opportunity to teach those around you about Down syndrome, and there are lots of quick and easy ways to do it. The National Down Syndrome Society’s (NDSS) You Tube channel has dozens of videos, simply choose a video that speaks to you and present it to your child's class, sports team, youth group or club, or share it with friends, family and colleagues. NDSS also offers the "Get to Know Me" poster and lesson plan for elementary school-aged kids.
DSAA offers our Members the opportunity to purchase awareness merchandise in March and October, as well as year-round via our online store. Whether visiting a client or shopping for groceries after work, you can display pride in DSAA’s mission and create an opportunity to talk about Down syndrome.
