My youngest daughter Bree Love Semple is 3 years old and has Down syndrome. She is the youngest of four children. She has two older sisters, ten and eight years old, and a big brother who is six years old.
My story is about finding out early in my pregnancy that my child would be born with Down syndrome. My goal is to create positive awareness for pregnant mothers who find out early that their child will be born with Down syndrome. The termination rate is unbelievably high. I hope to change the attitude of expectant mothers from one of sadness and fear, to one of joy and excitement.
What is needed to decrease the termination rate is more updated literature and more personal intervention with expectant mom's. Finding out that your unborn child has Down syndrome is not something to dread, but something to embrace. I want to help pregnant women see the beauty of a child with Down syndrome, before they decide to terminate.
I love seeing the world through my Bree Love's eyes. One thing I have witnessed about people with Down's is that they are simply not attracted to sinful behaviors. They are pure souls and this world needs more of them, not less.
